I've been itching to buy a waffle/sandwich/grill/donut machine for a while now and I finally settled for a grill and waffle one today. The hubby "complained" that he'll have A LOT of waffles to eat from now on.. especially since I have the machine now.. just like how I was crazy over macarons for a period of time (I still am okay!)...
So I seasoned my pan and made waffles for the hubby and I for dessert after dinner! I used the recipe from Taste Of Home and halved it.. It yielded about 6 waffles with half the recipe. It took about 30 minutes to whip up 6 waffles and I'd rate it a difficulty level 3 out of 5.
Belgian Waffles Recipe
This recipe yields 6 waffles
1 cup plain flour
1/3 cup castor sugar
1 3/4 tsp baking powder
1 egg, separated (55 - 60g type)
3/4 cup fresh milk
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla bean paste
Method
Measure flour
Melt the butter by double boiling or microwaving it
Add sugar to flour
Add baking powder
To the melted butter, add milk
Add yolk and vanilla bean paste (optional) and whisk well
Add wet ingredients into the dry ingredients
Mix well till there are no more lumps
In another mixing bowl/in a stand mixer, whisk egg whites till stiff peaks are formed. Fold/gently whisk whites into the mixture.
Beautiful mixture!
Preheat waffle iron/machine and scoop a ladle into the pan
Cook according to manufacturer's instructions. I cooked mine for 4 minutes - 4.5 minutes.
Nicely cooked!
I topped our waffles with Haagen-Dazs green tea ice cream, mango puree and fresh strawberries. I didn't quite fancy the green tea ice cream.. I want the Mango Raspberry one from Haagen Dazs! (:
In any case, this waffles were good and I'll probably make them fatter the next time round as requested by the hubby. Enjoy the recipe! (:
Your waffle looks great! I will try this recipe for my kids. Thanks
