Homemade Salted Caramel Sauce

I saw a friend cooking salted caramel last night and I wanted to give it a try since 1) I was free 2) My kitchen was dirty from baking earlier on. I baked some Mini Red Velvet Roses earlier in the evening.

Anyway, back to the Salted Caramel. It uses only 4 ingredients and I used the recipe from one of my favourite bloggers Sally's Baking Addiction. Boy was it easy!! Way easier than I thought it was and it took merely 10 minutes to cook. I'm dreaming of the things I could do with this salted caramel... cupcakes, cakes, bread, cheesecakes... (: I'd rate this recipe a difficulty level 2 out of 5 and it takes merely 10 minutes to prepare (:

Salted Caramel Sauce Recipe

This recipe yields 1/2+ jar of salted caramel

200g castor sugar
90g butter, cut into 6 slices
120ml whipping cream (I used Emborg)
1 tsp salt

On medium heat in a non-stick saucepan or pot, heat up the sugar.

Stir/fry constantly

Clumps will form

The clumps will melt

Allow sugar to melt completely while constantly stirring

When all the sugar has melted, add in the butter. Be careful as it may splatter due to the difference in temperature between the butter and the sugar.

Give it a good stir till the butter has melted completely

Slowly drizzle the whipping cream in, be careful of the bubbles/splatter

Stir well and allow it to boil for a minute. It will bubble.

Remove from heat and add in salt. Stir well.

Allow mixture to cool completely. I transferred mine to a dish for quicker cooling. The mixture will thicken upon cooling. Just warm it up a little for better fluidity before using.

Transfer to jar/container when cooled.

I can't wait to use this Salted Caramel Sauce this week for more fun bakes! (:
