Day 5 in Hong Kong: Stanley Waterfront and Lan Kwai Fong

After a good night's rest, we woke up feeling all refreshed.

Scrumpy made two new friends. The two tiggers belong to meimei. I can't wait for Disneyland!

For breakfast, we headed to have 车仔面. We had the luxury of choosing 4 ingredients from an extensive range of ingredients. Sausages, eggs, fish balls, vegetables, pork parts, beef parts and even pig's blood which isn't sold in Singapore anymore. Pretty good I must say!

In the afternoon, the fil took us to Stanley. While waiting for our bus, he taught me a lot on scaffolding. It's probably only in Hong Kong do we see dried bamboo being used for scaffolding. It's not just for small shop construction like this but also for large building scaffolding! Bamboo is indeed a really strong wood. Even though some may have split a little, it still works very well in holding up the building structure! I was truly amazed.

We took a really long bus ride up to Stanley. Even changing buses a couple of times along the way. The ride was a little bumpy but an eye opener. We saw many houses on our way there and the hubby said that Stanley is like the equivalent of our Sentosa Cove. The income inequality here is really huge. The rich are really really rich while most others aren't so well to do.

This is how much a house in Stanley would cost. Divide that by 6.

Insanely expensive I would say. It's lovely and quaint up at the waterfront but it's like for expatriates. Loads and loads of them. There was a small mall up there, something like what we have in Serangoon Gardens.

Hungry, we settled at McDonald's for something light to eat. I bought 2 more individual dolls for giveaway! That brings the number of dolls for giveaway to 3! Will be conducting the giveaway when I'm back in Singapore! Are you as excited as I am? (:

We then took a stroll around the place. Pa said that this building was shifted brick by brick from it's previous location. We even spotted a couple taking their wedding shoot. Oh yes, we've been blessed with really good weather since we got here on Saturday. Praise the Lord!

Hers us at Stanley Waterfront. The hubby and I have some weird chemistry going on. We're always in the same coloured clothes even though it's unplanned. And off thing is that the colours were often caught in together are colours we have very few pieces of!

Anyway, here's another shot of the happy us. And time truly flies. We've been married for 5 months now!

This place is just so quaint. And serene.

I love that little shelter on that end .

There were little shop houses along the water, just like what we have in Clarke Quay.

Pubs, bars and eateries. There were also shops behind this row.

Love the peacefulness of the place!

I was pretty amazed at the types of things they recycle here. They even recycle metal. Something we sure don't do in Singapore.

And up in Stanley, there were pretty flowers.

These flowers make me happy. They're not so much of a common sight in Hong Kong. It's all too developed.

By the time we got back to town, it was dark but yet so lit with lights.

The central area is just like our CBD area. With buildings flashing their logos and all bright for all to see.

We then took a tram to head closer to Lan Kwai Fong. Here's another shot of us!

We settled for Vietnamese food for dinner since we've had loads of dimsum and all in the recent days.

The pho was decent but nothing beats the pho I had in Ho Chi Min when I was there during my poly days. Imagine it being all nice and cold in the morning and you're slurping a cheap sgd $1.50 bowl of piping hot beef pho. That's like the best. Oh yes, we even had it with fried dough fritters (you tiao)!

Well, it's hard getting good phos. But I do love the beef combination bowl from Nam Nam in Singapore! (:

After dinner, we met Aunty Irene and her daughter in Lan Kwai Fong. Here's the mandatory shot the bil took of us!

The place is pretty much like our Clarke Quay. Noisy in its own way. Yes, that's a monk you see here. Not a right place for him to be I would say. But he and his "friend" were seeking donations. Seeking donations is fine but in Lan Kwai Fong, seriously?

Here's another shot without him.

And that's us! I changed to something prettier for the night (:

The place was filled with tons and tons and tons of expatriates. And tourists too. We headed down to Honi Honi,  a tiki bar!

The place was pretty adorable.

We ordered a huge bowl to share.

And another tall cocktail too. The hubby was merrily reminiscing his days of partying.. and we had decent fun.

But for me... give me my bed or my kitchen over a night out like that. I think I like my bed better. Or baking even more. XD
