Fried Ice Cream

Fried Ice Cream.. where should I begin? Hot and crunchy on the outside.. Frozen and melty on the inside. Such an old classic sold in Pasar Malams in the early 2000s. This can be made in the comfort of your home with just a few simple steps! These used to be sold with basic flavours like Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla etc but since these can be made at home, imagine all the possibilities!

This is one of those snacks perfect for a warm afternoon or even on an ice cold rainy day! I'm one of those nutty ones who enjoy ice cream on an ice cold day! XD How about you?

Fried Ice Cream Recipe
Ingredients:

2 slices plain bread
Some ice cream

Oil for deep frying

Steps:

The ingredients! The trick here is using a saucer about the size of a slice of bread (:

Place a slice of bread on one saucer. Scoop a dollop of ice cream onto the bread.

Add the other slice of bread.

Now the tricky bit is... to find a match between the 2 saucers. Once in place, apply pressure to seal. Try to avoid the crust of the bread if possible.

Remove crust and keep it for garlic bread sticks or something! You should have something like this!

Now, pinch the sides of the bread to 'seal' in the bread. Freeze the 'sandwich' for at least an hour before deep frying it.

Have some hot oil in a pan/pot. You can either choose to shallow fry it or deep fry it.
When the oil is hot, place the 'sandwich' into the hot oil.
Shallow fry each side for 1-2 minutes or till golden brown. If deep frying, fry one side for a minute or so, and toss over to fry till golden brown on both sides.

Drain dry the 'sandwich' on kitchen towels for about 1/2 a minute before enjoying it!

YUM! Now that I've gotten my bread machine, I shall do this soon with 'fresh' bread! Now now.. if only I have an ice cream machine! XD

I'd love to see the bakes or stuff you've cooked using the blog's recipe! Do share photos of stuff you've baked or cooked using the blog's recipe with me either via FB message to http://facebook.com/limcynthia OR http://facebook.com/thebakingbiatch OR via email at cynthia.lim.hl@gmail.com! 1. Hello Xavvy,

The ice-cream won't melt if you remove your fried ice-cream from the freezer after a couple of hours. Don't make it fresh and fry it fresh (; that way, the tendency for the ice cream to melt is really high and also, the bread may open up!

Thanks! (: I hope that you'll succeed in getting it as nice too!

      Love,
      Cynthia
